Adverse Weather Policy
Poppets Day Nursery believes that the health and safety of children is of paramount importance. We make our setting a safe and healthy place for children, parents, staff, students and volunteers.
- We aim to make children, parents and staff aware of health and safety issues and to minimise the hazards and risks to enable the children to thrive in a healthy and safe environment. Our policies are displayed in our reception area and are easily accessible for parents and visitors. Winter is a very exciting time of year for everyone, and although we want to have lots of fun in the snow-if there was an excessive amount then we have procedures in place to ensure that the safety of children and staff is paramount.
- Sometimes though, this does mean we may have to limit the number of children the nursery can accept, or occasionally even close the nursery. This is because our staff:child ratios must always be in line with OFSTED regulations.
Over the winter months, we have a system in place to ensure that all parents are aware of the situation at nursery before they set out.
All parents will receive an email through Parenta explaining the current situation; the information is also uploaded onto our Facebook page.
The email sent out will contain one of the following messages:
- Closed
- Limited Availability
- Ltd Avail/Late
- Early Closure
- Closed: The nursery is closed and will not be opening at any time on this day. Please check the website the next morning for the latest update.
- Limited Availability: If some staff cannot get to the nursery at all, we will operate a limited availability system depending on how many staff we have here. This means we will accept children on a first come, first served basis. Once we have reached our staff:child ratios, we will be unable to accept any more children into the nursery. Parents should contact the nursery on the day for specific details.
- Ltd Avail/Late: If staff are struggling to get in, the nursery may have to open later in the morning in order for us to maintain our staff:child ratios. Parents should contact the nursery on the day for specific details.
- Early Closure: If bad weather comes in during the day and appears to put at risk the prospect of children and staff getting home safely, we will close the nursery early and notify all affected parents by phone.We appreciate that any disruption to the normal opening hours of the nursery is inconvenient, and action will be taken only when absolutely necessary. We very much appreciate your support and understanding in helping us to maintain the safety and wellbeing of all children and staff.
